History of the LOCTITE brand
LOCTITE is an American-owned brand of adhesives, sealants and surface treatments, including acrylic, anaerobic, cyanoacrylate, epoxy, hot melt, silicone, urethane and UV/light cure technologies. Loctite products are sold globally and used in a variety of industrial applications.
In 1953, American professor Vernon K. Krieble developed an anaerobic thread sealant in his basement laboratory at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Krieble's company, American Sealants, created the Loctite brand, which was billed as ushering in a new era of mechanical reliability by eliminating vibrational loosening of mechanical fasteners, a frequent cause of machine failure.
In 1956, the name Loctite was chosen by Krieble's daughter-in-law, Nancy Brayton Krieble. The LOCTITE brand was officially launched to the public at a press conference at the University Club of New York on July 26 of that year.
After 44 years of development and many great achievements, in 1997, Loctite was acquired by Henkel, a German Fortune 500 company as a leading brand. Since then, Loctite has remained a key brand of Henkel and is a supplier of household adhesives, epoxies, spray adhesives, construction and home repair adhesives, sealants and fillers. In recent years, the company has increased its focus on green and sustainable technologies.
