LOCTITE 268 is a high strength, red threadlocker designed to permanently fix and seal bolts, nuts and studs. This prevents loosening due to vibration. The product comes in a special non-drip bar. The design is ideal for vertical and overhead applications. The outstanding advantage of LOCTITE 268 is its ability to work well on all metal surfaces. Even passive substrates such as stainless steel, aluminium and plated surfaces, without the need for a primer. In addition, the product is compatible with most types of screws with surface oil without requiring prior cleaning.

Instructions for using LOCTITE 268 threadlocker
1. Preparation – Cleaning
- LOCTITE 268 can be used directly on most screws “as received” with a light coating of anti-corrosion oil without the need for cleaning.
- For screws that are heavily contaminated with grease or dirt, LOCTITE® SF 7070 should be used to degrease and clean the surface before applying the threadlocker. This helps to ensure optimum performance when using the product.
2. Prepare – Activate
- When used on passive metals (such as stainless steel, aluminium, plated metals) or under low temperature conditions (below 5°C), if the cure rate is slow, use LOCTITE® SF 7649 to activate the surface.
- Spray on activator and allow to dry completely before using LOCTITE 268.
3. Glue application instructions
3.1. Through hole
- Apply a strip of 360° thread locking adhesive to the thread contact area of the male pin, ensuring 2-3 turns of thread are covered.
- Install the nut and tighten to the appropriate torque.
3.2. Blind hole
- Apply thread locking adhesive evenly over the diameter of the threaded contact part on the stop pin.
- Insert the stopper into the blind hole and tighten to the required torque.
4. Assembly
- After applying glue, assemble and tighten the screws to the specified torque level.
- If multiple bolts need to be tightened, make sure to tighten them all within a fixed time frame for best results.
5. Disassembly
- Screws locked with LOCTITE 268 can be easily removed with common hand tools.
- In case of difficult removal, heat the area locally to approximately 500°F/260°C , then proceed to remove while hot.
